Choose Wellness!

What comes to mind when you think of health prevention? Most people answer things like "annual checkups, blood work for cholesterol & blood sugars, mammograms, things of a more diagnostic nature. These things tend to be more of a reactive state. I much prefer to choose health over sickness, and prevention and lifestyle are the key to discovering wellness.

Often when I work with individuals whether it's a nutrition consultation or a fitness evaluation, I like to address the seven risk factors for CAD (cardiovascular disease). They are: family history, smoker, high BP, high cholesterol, diabetes, obesity, and living a sedentary lifestyle (think couch potato).

Guess what? Six of these can be controlled by lifestyle. Family history you're stuck with.

Our country is facing a health care crisis like never before. Why? Too many sick Americans. Let's not be one of them. Let's choose health! Create wealth by choosing health! How? Think of all the time and money saved when you're healthy. No dreaded wait times in the doctors office. No spending the day home with a sick child. No prescription copays, and the list goes on and on. Besides, if you own your own business and you're too sick to run it, whose making the money?

Here are seven simple healthy habits you can start today.
1. Make a decision to be healthy - choose health over sickness.
2. Choose good nutrition - whole foods - all food groups, supplement for insurance.
3. Get enough sleep - absolutely necessary for the body to repair itself.
4. Stop smoking - smoking ages you faster than anything else.
5. Be kind to others - be charitable. Life isn't always about you.
6. MOVE - I mean, get off the couch. Daily. Find some activity you enjoy.
7. Think positive happy thoughts.

Join me on the path of wellness.

Hopes & Dreams for 2009

We are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. Ephesians 2:10

Wow. It's January 1st - New Years Day, 2009! A new 365 days are waiting to fulfill our hopes and dreams. What does this new year hold for me? A new path toward fulfilled dreams? A more focused vision towards success? It's comforting to know that God has made me unique and that I have special gifts and talents to achieve my greatest desires.

We've had a lovely Christmas season, and today's a new beginning. The tree is coming down, the ornaments and decorations that I've collected over the years are going back to storage, and we are ready to start anew. As Art & I have been brainstorming the last few days about new goals for our business and ways to reach people , it's become quite apparent that we must set our goals and chart our course with deliberate action. We have learned much this past year and I must put all that knowledge to good use. Keep my eyes focused on the goal. Discover the possibilities that God has put before us. Believe. It will be a very happy New Year!

Maui in June

Just learning this blogspot stuff, so patience is a virtue! As my site name implies "I'm Off The Hook", my family is my biggest motivator to make our business successful!
My daughter and I got to spend a wonderful week in Maui for her graduation! All the more inspiration and desire to grow our business. We want to go back - again and again! Next time around I've got to take my husband. He really missed out!

Time "flys" when you're having fun!

Well, I must say, I haven't spent much time on my blogger spot but after viewing several bloggers from several young moms in our neighborhood, I've been inspired to start posting.

Where does all the time go? Here's an update since May: we had a busy and HOT!! HOT summer. We were able to get away to our cabin in the woods on several occasions which gives us a bit of a break from the heat. My husband, daughter and I traveled to New Orleans in August. Okay, I agree, that's a bit nuts - the humidity was so thick! We're quite used to the "dry" heat, and I much prefer that. We traveled to attend Shaklee's annual Convention but we were able to find a condo there and made a vacation out of it. The condo was right on the edge of the famous "French Quarter", and we did lots of walking - made it down Bourbon street and all. We went to the WWII museum, walked the Garden District, drove through the lower ninth ward to view some of Katrina damage, and of course, attended the conference.

Shaklee's conferences are always motivating and exciting, and once again we came home feeling exhilarated and excited about growing our business. With Vivix anti-aging product release, we've focused more towards anti-aging and I'm currently working to create a new website specific to aging.

My daughter, though very busy with her first semester in college, takes time to share products with classmates whom express a particular health issue, and my son has now started to build his clients too! Yeah!! we want the whole family involved:)

Welcome

What does "I'm off the hook" mean to you? I named my company "Off The Hook" because it represents what's important to me. For instance, I take natural whole food supplements and nutritional products which help me stay "off the hook" from poor health and the myriad of pharmaceutical drugs. I use natural "green" cleaning products in my home so my family can stay "off the hook" from breathing toxic chemicals which impair the health. I use natural products on my skin so I can keep looking vibrant and healthy and stay "off the hook" from unwanted wrinkles and skin flaws! And finally, I'm "off the hook" from rush hour traffic and pantyhose, high heels, and business suits! Working from home aligns with my personal values of family first! I have been blessed beyond words to be able to be a "mompreneur" and be home raising my children. My youngest daughter, now 18 has decided to join me in my business endeavor so she too can stay "off the hook". With gas prices inching towards $4.00 a gallon, she is anxious to give up the commute and become an entrepreneur as she attends college for nursing. Now, what would it mean to you to be "off the hook"?
